15 Australian Horror Movies You Must See Before You Die
13. The Tunnel
Set below the streets of Sydney in its disused underground railway tunnels, Carlo Ledesma’s debut feature The Tunnel is a found footage style horror about a documentary crew who go exploring the bowels of the city in hopes of exposing a government cover-up around its hastily abandoned plans to recycle millions of litres of water trapped there after flooding.
What they find instead is far more creepy than a government conspiracy, and soon enough the crew are fighting for survival against a terrifying humanoid with a thirst for offing non-subterranean folk. Kind of like Creep meets The Descent, minus the spelunking.
Though found footage might be getting a bit tired these days, Ledesma still manages to craft a creepy if not entirely ground-breaking entry into an over-saturated genre. Not bad for a crowd funded film made on a shoestring budget of just $36,000 AUD.
