5. Silver Linings Playbook - David O. Russell
I never thought I would be saying this, purely because there has been an array of great movies out this year, but Silver Linings Playbook might just be my favourite film of the whole year, but that is not to be confused with the best of the year. While its romance exterior might of been deemed clichéd in some areas, it majorly excelled due to an honest and sharp script - allowing for some pitch perfect chemistry between the two leads, some great casting choices and most importantly a wonderfully sweet story accompanying it all. It has been nominated at the Golden Globes and encounters stiff competition, primarily against Les Miserables. I am not a huge fan of seeing actors take up the majority of the screen time singing to tell a story so, on that basis, I hope Silver Linings Playbook wins.
4. Avengers Assemble - Joss Whedon
Joss Whedon achieved something mega by pulling all these Marvel champions together into one picture with this amount of ease. The casting was pitch perfect, the action was big and loud, the 3D assisted some scenes insanely well and Joss Whedon and his team managed to completely destroy box office history. It was arguably the most energetic and enjoyable movie going experience of 2012 and I guarantee any person who is reading this section, and has seen Avengers Assemble, will own up and say they clapped at certain points during the film. I know I did.
