15 Awesome Indiana Jones Deleted Scenes

8. Indy Fights Chattar Lal On The Cage - Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom

Though he's something of a major villain in Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom, evil Prime Minister Chattar Lal doesn't get a proper death scene of his own - he just disappears from the movie after Indy crushes him with the chain-pulling device attached to the cage that lowers its victims into the lava below. In one shot, Chattar Lal is squirming on the ground; in the next, he's vanished. The implication here is that an important scene was deleted from the movie, and using an awesome photograph from the set it's possible to guess what was supposed to happen. As visible in the photo above, Indy and Chattar Lal are battling it out on the cage - presumably after Indy crushes Lal, he gets up and continues to fight our hero. Somehow, the two end up on the cage, before Lal is knocked off and plummets to a fiery death. This take on Lal's death can be confirmed by the official Temple of Doom novelisation, in which Chattar Lal is killed after Indy flips the cage and knocks the Prime Minister into the lava. It's a genuine shame that this scene was cut, because it's always seemed a little weird that we never got to see Chattar Lal again after he's crushed (and that he just disappears). This fight sequence - going by the only image we have of it - could have been brilliant.
