5. Crossover (2006) - Anthony Mackie

RottenTomatoes Score: 2% The Plot: A sports drama about two talented young basketball players (Wesley Jonathan and Anthony Mackie) with different aspirations for the future, but both ultimately wishing to better themselves. A road trip the pair take to Los Angeles, however, changes everything. Why It Sucks: Because aside from the undeniably impressive basketball moves on display, there's just nothing here that hasn't been better done in numerous coming-of-age and inspirational sports dramas before. Mackie isn't exactly terrible in it, though it's easy to get confused about that fact when the dialogue is so sleep-inducingly dull, and the drama has been lazily plucked from the under-achieving sports prodigy playbook. Where's the celebration of the beauty of the game? And with an actor as talented as Mackie at the forefront, how does the audience not want to root for him more? A sickeningly dull script and flat direction, that's how.
