15 Best Horror Movies Of 2017

14. Annabelle: Creation

After kicking off the Conjuring Cinematic Universe (because every popular property needs to have a multi-movie extended universe these days) with the critically-panned Annabelle in 2014, the sequel surprised both fans and critics when it released earlier this year and turned out to be pretty damn good.

Directed by David F. Sandberg who put together 2016's spectacularly spooky Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation isn't a complete departure from what you'd expect to see in a James Wan influenced horror, but it brought enough new to the table to push the admittedly limited possessed doll sub-genre to new heights.

Focused on an all-girl orphanage led by Lulu Wilson (who, between this and Ouija: Origin of Evil, seems to have taken over the whole genre) and a spine-tinglingly creepy turn by Miranda Otto, Creation proved that a horror series can still thrive and be a success even if the first film fails to resonate with an audience.
