15 Best Jump Scares In Movie History

14. "You're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat" - Jaws

Steven Spielberg's masterful thriller gives audiences their terrifying first glimpse of the shark terrorising Amity Island as Brody (Roy Scheider), Quint (Robert Shaw) and Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) set out to capture it.

As Brody chums the waters, the shark emerges behind him out of nowhere, and as he turns to see the shark rising out of the ocean, he quickly darts back in terror and bolts upright, reflecting the audience's own palm-soaked fear.

Though the shot placement, keeping Brody to the right of the frame and leaving a huge gap for the shark, might seem obvious to younger audiences today, at the time it was an absolute killer, and remains a classic jump scare that doesn't overdo it with the music or (admittedly pretty terrible) shark prop.
