13. Fighting With My Family

Fighting With My Family Florence Pugh
WWE Studios

On the face of it, a biopic of a WWE star made by Stephen Merchant and in conjunction with WWE themselves should never have worked. The company might be good at making money from professional wrestling, but their track record as a film studio is woeful (not that they really aspire to awards or anything).

But Fighting With My Family is one of the biggest surprises of the year and not because it's not terrible (a lowly but inevitable benchmark given the company behind it), but because it's a legitimately great watch.

Thanks to a lovingly crafted, uplifting story and great performances from a cast including Florence Pugh, Lena Headey, Vince Vaughn and Nick Frost it's a really joyful watch. Sure, it's selling a corporate idea at its heart, but it does it with such heart and wit that it's easily forgiven.
