10. The Garbage Pail Kids Movie (1987)

Surely the only film in history to be both adapted from a set of trading cards and co-produced by a chewing gum company - that's Topps Chewing Gum, folks - The Garbage Pail Kids Movie follows seven of the titular mutated, grotesquely-proportioned kids as they acclimatise to life on Earth.

The most common criticism about this movie is that, while clearly made for kids, the risque humour and undeniably creepy puppet designs make it wholly inappropriate for that target audience, likely explaining why it cratered at the box office.

For adults, though, there is a lot here to enjoy, namely the unexpected anti-corporate message - underlined by the Garbage Pail Kids themselves serving as a parody of the Cabbage Patch Kids - the weirdly charming puppet designs, and a legitimately earnest call not to judge people/creatures on appearances alone.

Tonally, the film is a flaming trainwreck for sure, but for all of the lame, cookie-cutter 80s kids movies trying to cash-in on E.T., this sure was one of the more endearingly demented.
