8. Mac & Me (1988)

Mac And Me

Mac and Me is a semi-legendary late-80s E.T. knock-off that gained particular infamy in more recent years due to Paul Rudd. Whenever the actor appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien to promote a movie, he would instead air an especially ridiculous - and, yes, awful - clip from the film, effectively transforming it into an Internet meme.

On its own terms, though, Mac and Me is one of the most unforgettable bad movies ever made, a stunningly transparent family film primarily intended to serve as an extended commercial for McDonalds, even featuring a borderline-experimental dance sequence set inside the restaurant. The Mac of the title is no coincidence, clearly.

Elsewhere, there's shameless shilling for Coca Cola and Skittles, while the titular alien creature is more disconcertingly repulsive than cute.

Mac and Me is an undeniable failure of intent as a touching adventure film for all ages, but as an aggressive feat of product placement and an unexpectedly surreal car crash you can't look away from, it is ludicrously entertaining.
