15 Best Original Movie Characters Of 2016

14. Chirrut Îmwe - Rogue One

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is an interesting entry in the Star Wars canon. While it experiments with new characters and concepts that the other films shy away from (like having a Star Wars film without any Jedi in it), its attempts to portray a morally gray area of the franchise are slightly handicapped by an undercooked script and a ludicrous amount of fanservice (an obligation for every Star Wars film since 1999).

All that said, the cast they assemble for this prequel sequel do an admirable job with fairly underwritten roles. The most interesting of this new batch of heroes is Donnie Yen's Chirrut Îmwe, a blind monk who lets the Force guide his actions. He gets some of the best action in the film as he battles stormtroopers with the Rebellion, all while chanting that the Force is with him.

Not only is his character compelling and watchable, his presence takes Star Wars fans back to a simpler time, before Midichlorians, when The Force was just some vague mystical religion that most people in the galaxy got by without. If you hadn't seen the other Star Wars films, this guy would come off as a complete nutter, who somehow gets results in spite of his handicap.
