15 Best Original Movie Characters Of 2016

12. Destiny - Finding Dory

Star Trek Beyond Jaylah
Pixar

Finding Dory is not an incredible film by any stretch of the imagination - while it is the best of Pixar's non-Toy Story franchise material, it is still just as superfluous as Monsters University and Cars 2 (if not as offensively bad as either of those two). But even in their B Material, Pixar proves they have a boundless well of creativity for new and interesting characters that'll appeal to adults and children alike.

The standout of Finding Dory is Destiny, a whale shark with comically poor vision who was a friend of Dory's when she was growing up in the aquarium. She gets some of the best lines in the film, and a good handful of physical comedy bits that never grow tired.

However, she isn't just a source of comic relief. Destiny has a fairly understated character arc about finding her self confidence (a common trait amongst Disney supporting players) which comes into play in a simultaneously hilarious and touching final act. And unlike the main plot, her arc does not overstate itself - it's there, but you don't have to focus on it if you don't want to.
