12. Videodrome

Blade Runner
Universal Pictures

What if watching a tv show could warp your mind, your reality and even your body? Writer/director David Cronenberg explores this bizarre concept in the batshit crazy Videodrome.

James Woods plays Max Renn who, as president of a television network, chooses to air a violent and disturbing show from Malaysia where anonymous participants are tortured and murdered.

After watching the show himself, Renn begins to experience strange hallucinations and undergoes physical changes, slowly losing touch with reality as he uncovers a sinister and disturbing conspiracy to control the minds of North American citizens.

Videodrome is violent, disorientating, extreme and so very eighties. A cult classic in the truest sense.
