10. Doctor Octopus (Spider-Man 2)

Though Sam Raimi probably could've gotten away with a more colourful and comic-accurate Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina) - especially after the absurd Green Goblin suit in the first movie - Spider-Man 2's version is nevertheless incredibly difficult to argue with.

By itself the trenchcoat may be a fairly unremarkable get-up, but it's of course brought to vibrant life by the presence of the supervillain's mechanical tentacles.

Thanks to Molina's brilliantly physical performance, it really feels like he's in control of the arms, even when they were added digitally for certain scenes.

It's proof perfect that sometimes a simple, stripped-down design can be more striking and effective than something overly busy and detailed.
