14. The Lack Of Food In The Deathly Hallows

In the first half of The Deathly Hallows, Harry, Ron and Hermione are forced to live in the wilderness to avoid being captured. During this time, they become malnourished because food is the first of the five Principal Exceptions to Gamp’s Law of Elemental Transfiguration. In other words, food can’t be conjured from thin air.

However, Hermione explains that food can be duplicated. But if this is the case, why didn’t they find some food and replicate it? Given the Undetectable Extension Charm on Hermione’s bag, it would have been easy to store as well. Someone could have easily nipped to the supermarket in the Invisibility Cloak and grabbed some vital items.

What’s more, Professor McGonagall does create food from thin air in The Chamber of Secrets. Following Harry and Ron’s misadventures with the Whomping Willow, she conjures a plate of sandwiches for them to eat before they return to their dormitories.

As such, the lack of food in The Deathly Hallows makes no sense. Whichever way you look at it, Harry, Ron and Hermione shouldn't have been malnourished.
