15 Chilling Movie Villains That Are Harrowing To Watch

If you like particularly hateful movie characters, you've met your match with this vile and sickening villain in Ridley Scott's Gladiator. He kills his own father out of jealousy, he ruins an innocent man's life and murders his family, he even has incestuous desires for his sister... what's not to hate?

Commodus is unquestionably an evil and horrifying individual who's easily one of the nastiest villains in a historical movie ever. Interestingly, in contrast to many more charismatic and powerful villains, Commodus is a petty tyrant. He's a whiny, cowardly, and uncharismatic man-child who's unfortunately been given an appalling amount of power; everything the honorable, decent and bad-ass Maximus isn't.

He's both completely evil and an entirely unlikable, cringe-inducing figure, meaning he's pretty much impossible to like on any level. Given how childish his demeanor is and how much every viewer loathed him, it feels appropiate to call him the Joffrey Baratheon of movies.

In general, this is a character who everyone wanted to die and his eventual death at Maximus' hands couldn't come soon enough. Commodus was apparently just as awful in real life, so this was a relatively fair cultural depiction of him.
