15 Cinema Legends You Won't Believe Have Never Won Oscars

10. Cary Grant

The American Film Institute may have named Cary Grant the second greatest film star of all time, but Cuba Gooding Jr's mantlepiece contains more Oscars: wrap your head around that one. In fact, the screen legend only received two nominations in his whole career (Cary, not Cuba); the first being for 1941 flick Penny Serenade (beaten by Gary Cooper for Sergeant York) and the second three years later for None But The Lonely Heart (beaten by Bing Crosby for Going My Way). In fact, the Oscars didn't nominate North By Northwest, Charade or Bringing Up Baby for any kind of acting award, and Notorious saw only Claude Rains given a nod, in the Best Supporting Actor category; it's a judging panel that's largely ignored Grant's contribution to cinema. In 1970, he was presented an honorary Oscar, in eventual recognition of his talent. It might have taken them three decades to notice him, but at least he got something in the end.
