15 Comic Book Movie Deaths That Didn't Last

1. Professor X - X-Men: The Last Stand

Cause Of Death: Exploded into a cloud of dust by Phoenix.

When Professor X and his great enemy Magneto discover that Jean Grey has escaped to her childhood home, they both race to her to recruit/save her, depending on their motives.

Unfortunately for Xavier, she's not at all pleased to see him, since he basically imprisoned the Phoenix part of her in a psychic prison for 20 years. Somewhat upset, Phoenix turns her powers up to 11 and levitates Xavier before bursting him into a shower of baldy dust.

Nobody could possibly survive that. Except it is revealed at the end of the movie that Xavier is alive in the body of a a comatose patient under the care of Dr Moira MacTaggert.

The Science Behind The Revival

Hold on to your butts: the official line for the post-credit scene that revealed that Xavier's consciousness was alive was that he had transferred his consciousness into the body of a near dead patient - calling back to a scene earlier when Xavier discussed the ethics of doing precisely that.)

The DVD commentary however decided to go even further, stating that the comatose body belonged to a braindead twin, who had been born that way because Xavier had basically stolen all of his brain power.

Which in itself suggests that Xavier basically kept his brother alive for decades in case he ever needed to hop into his head.
