15 Most Controversial Movie Moments Of 2014

8. Creepy Mikey - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Where to begin with what's controversial about this past summer's Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie? Well, easily the weirdest creative decision of the entire movie (and there are plenty) is to have Michelangelo (Noel Fisher) be creepily infatuated with the lovely April O'Neil (Megan Fox). It begins when they first meet and Mikey declares, "She's so hot I can feel my shell tightening", making the first explicit boner reference in any officially licensed Turtles product ever, all the more disgusting when you remember just how large turtle genitalia actually is (you can Google that one for yourselves). Given the goofy, free-wheeling nature of the original comics, cartoons and movies, it's a shame (if unsurprising) that Bay and co. felt the need to remove some of that innocence and inject so much crudeness into this new take on the beloved characters. Naturally, long-time fans weren't best pleased, and the only ones who likely accepted this tonal change were 13-year-olds with no knowledge of the originals.
