15 Most Controversial Movie Moments Of 2014

9. Gwen Stacy Dies - The Amazing Spider-Man 2

At the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Spidey (Andrew Garfield) is fighting the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan), who leaves Gwen (Emma Stone) hanging perilously from a web during the fight. The clock tower's mechanism cuts the web that Spidey shot to stop her from falling, causing her to fall once again, and though he fires another web to catch her, it's too late, with her neck snapping hard on the ground, killing her instantly. A distraught Peter cradles his love's corpse as the scene comes to an end. Though Gwen's death was widely expected to occur in the film, it's still a pretty shocking moment when it finally happens, namely the unexpectedly violent nature of it, with director Marc Webb refusing to cut away from the sudden brutality of the neck snap. Likely disturbing an entire generation of kids who love these films for their goofiness, it was nevertheless the movie's best scene, and a fantastic rendition of one of Spidey's most iconic comic book moments.
