15 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Dark Knight Trilogy

10. Maggie Gyllenhaal May Be A Better Actress Than Katie Holmes, But She's Nowhere Near As Hot

There's no doubting the fact that, when Katie Holmes blew the opportunity of a lifetime by choosing to star opposite Diane Keaton in Mad Money rather than reprise the role of Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight, her replacement with Maggie Gyllenhaal was a total trade-up: she's an infinitely more talented actress, and frankly, her less-babyfaced appearance makes her much more believable as the Assistant District Attorney. That said, as is a frequent (and perhaps rather cruel) complaint about Gyllenhaal's casting, she doesn't look even remotely like Holmes, and is considerably less attractive. Why does this matter? Holmes is insanely hot and Gyllenhaal is a relatively average-looking woman (not ugly by any means, no matter how many "Droopy Dog" comparisons show up online), but it makes audiences beg the question: why on Earth are the suave, handsome likes of Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent so intently fighting for the affections of a decidedly plain woman? Sure, personality counts for a lot, but this one's still a little hard to wrestle with (at least until Rachel is blown to bits).
