15 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Marvel Cinematic Universe

6. They're Not Afraid To Butcher The Source Material

A large part of the MCU's success is the fact that they (mostly) treat the source material with the respect it deserves, avoiding a tone-deaf Batman and Robin-esque fiasco instead. That said, Marvel Studios proved with Iron Man 3 that they're not afraid to deviate from the source material, as they took the classic villain The Mandarin and turned him into a comedy gag, much to the anger of most comic book fans. What Can Be Done About It?: In fairness, the controversy that surrounded the Mandarin twist may have been enough to scare Marvel away from attempting anything like this again (and the One-Shot All Hail the King basically retcons the Mandarin anyway). Hopefully they'll realise that these smug attempts to subvert expectations are ultimately just obnoxious and irritating.
