15 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The Marvel Cinematic Universe
8. Everyone Will Be Recast Eventually
It's an undeniable fact that the fantastic cast of the MCU that viewers can't imagine being without are eventually going to age out of their respective roles, none sooner than Robert Downey Jr, who will turn 50 just before Age of Ultron is released, and so should be 53 by the time the third Avengers film hits screens. As such, the notion of recasting is inevitable, and has already been brought up by Downey himself. As much as fans see him as completely embodying Tony Stark, he and the other Avengers, assuming this franchise keeps printing money past Phase Three, will be replaced with other actors, and though their successors have huge shoes to fill, it's simply a better alternative than them being too old for the parts they're playing. Granted, most of the line-up could probably survive comfortably for another decade or so (and Ruffalo, whose action is CGI, is in the most advantageous position of the lot), but it's well-known that Chris Evans for one is keen to hang up the Cap role in the near-future. What Can Be Done About It?: Absolutely nothing. If fans want these films to keep being made, they will have to accept recasting as a natural part of the process. As long as Marvel keep making the same shrewd casting decisions, there shouldn't be a problem with this (as much as audiences will undeniably miss the original actors).
