15 Deeply Tasteless Films That Will Offend Everyone

3. Battle Royale II: Requiem

Movie 43 Hugh Jackman
Toei Company

This is another technically atrocious movie that'll make your head hurt, but the appalling messages take this one to a whole 'nother level. This is a film which not only condones, but glamorizes, terrorism.

The main characters, who are young people fighting the Japanese government, are terrorists who are clearly modeled on Al-Qaeda. They are shown committing a devastating bomb attack on a financial center with two tall skyscrapers in it. By the way, this was released only two years after 9/11. The fact that the film actually sympathizes with such terrorism makes it possibly one of the most offensive films of all time.

The group is also depicted as closely linked to an unspecified war-torn country in the Middle-East, hammering home the Al-Qaeda comparisons. Even this is depicted in a tone-deaf manner, since the war-torn and troubled country is romanticized in comparison to Japan and Shuya Nanahara (the survivor of the first film, who is now the terrorist leader), describes himself as being inspired by the open smiles of the children in that country. Seriously?

Thankfully this remains largely un-seen in the Western World. If it had been shown around the world much it would've caused utter outrage and rightly so.
