14. Dr Henry Pride - Dr Black, Mr Hyde
In this Blaxploitation take on Robert Louis Stephenson’s tale, a mad African-American surgeon, seeking a test subject for his “special regenerative serum”, decides to test it upon himself and transforms into – wait for it – an animalistic white man.
Well, that was the idea. Actually, it’s the same actor (Bernie Casey, later in Never Say Never Again) in pancake make-up, and even though he looks like a black man in a bad make-up job, he still fools the police for the rest of the movie.
When black gang members laugh at him for being “on the wrong side of town”, the doc throws their leader through a plate glass window and goes on a city-wide rampage, attacking pimps, hookers and cops before being gunned down at the Watts monument.
