15 Essential Films You Might've Missed From This Decade (So Far)

15. The Guest

As the recently released excellent horror movie It Follows continues to demonstrate, there's a fad for drawing heavily upon the great horror movies of the 1980s in recent independent genre cinema. Adam Wingard's stylish horror-thriller The Guest is no exception. Starring Dan Stevens as the titular guest who arrives at the home of a fallen comrade, The Guest oozes retro stylings which recall the great work of John Carpenter. Stevens plays David Collins, a psychopath with a smooth-talking patter which he uses to ingratiate himself into the Peterson family before his unusual past catches up with him. Director Wingard keeps the 80s-tinged action and tension running from start to finish making The Guest essential viewing for fans of horror, particularly those with a taste for nostalgia.
