15 Essential Films You Might've Missed From This Decade (So Far)

13. Tyrannosaur

The name Paddy Considine is perhaps most familiar in association with British director Shane Meadows - Considine first came to widespread attention through his sterling performances in films like A Room For Romeo Brass and Dead Man's Shoes. If Tyrannosaur is anything to go by, however, then Considine is every bit as talented behind the camera as he is in front of it. Expanding on his 2007 short film Dog Altogether, Tyrannosaur stars Peter Mullan as violent alcoholic Joseph and Olivia Colman as Hannah, the abused woman with whom he forms a tentative friendship after being beaten up in a revenge attack. Tyrannosaur might seem like another slice of cold miserablism which British directors are renowned for, but Considine's handling of the drama and emphasis on the redemptive qualities of the characters within it is masterfully assured for a directorial debut.
