14. The Happening

The Premise: Huge numbers of people are all committing suicide at once. Elliot Moore and his family must run to escape the mysterious natural disaster. Disaster movies tend to be hit or miss, and I'm not just referring the asteroids that are so often endangering our species, according to Hollywood. Whilst some border on the insane - neutrinos really don't mutate, 2012 - some of them are actually fairly intriguing. The idea of serial suicides falls into that category; what could possibly be so catastrophic that it forces humanity to take its own life? It's an idea that really delves into the mind and plays on the paranoia of its characters, but unfortunately, the film disappointed almost everyone who went to go and see it. Because it was the plants. There were neurotoxins coming out of the plants, forcing the world into suicide. It was somewhat anticlimactic, it's fair to say.
