15 Feel-Bad Movies That Make You Feel Like Sh*t

7. Schindler’s List

It may be a bit of a cliché in a compilation of sad movies, and there’s certainly no shortfall of feel bad movies set during World War II, but Schindler’s List is quite possibly the most memorably moving and a reminder of just how truly awful a species us humans can be.

It’s based on the true story of Oskar Schindler (played by Liam Neeson), a German industrialist and Nazi Party member who initially used the war and his influence as a means of making money and securing cheap Jewish labour but began using his standing for the better good and saving his Jewish workers from being taken to concentration camps, it’s responsible for some of the most gut-wrenching scenes in recent cinema history (little girl in the red coat, anyone?).

Though there’s an uplifting story at its core – just like his onscreen counterpart, the real Schindler ended up saving the lives of over 1000 Jews – it never shies away from the abhorrent inhumanity of life under Nazi rule and ends on a bittersweet note with Schindler recognising he could’ve saved many more lives.
