15 Films We’re Amazed That Hollywood Hasn’t Remade Already
13. Big
Big is the classic Tom Hanks film of my childhood. By having the character being a child who was turned into a man and dumped into a world he didn't entirely understand, it made me connect with the film. Then I watch it again as an adult, and I get jokes now that I didn't even recognise as jokes when I was a kid. It is a very clever film. But it was also made in 1988. Seeing as films from the early 2000's have already been remade or rebooted, anything from the 80's is fair game as far as Hollywood is concerned. The fact that it is a Tom Hanks film shouldn't scare any producers, but obviously they would want to get Hanks' blessing and potentially line up a cameo as if to give the new production a nod. But why would they want to re-shoot Big? I'll tell you why. Because it'll make the same connection now as it did back then. In fact the only issue I see is that the adults who go to see it now will be those that saw the original as children. So really what might be better is to do some sort of sequel rather than a direct remake. If it references the original then the adults who saw the first film as children will be a lot happier. Potential: As a direct remake? Low. As some sort of sequel? I'm honestly surprised we haven't had one already.
