Takashi Shimizu is most known for contributing one of the most famous J-horror entities to pop culture €“ the ghostly Japanese Ju-on series and Americanized Grudge remake. He also directed this very bizarre supernatural 3D horror which saw him collaborate with acclaimed cinematographer Christopher Doyle (In the Mood for Love). In basic terms it's about a young girl and her bullied younger brother who are haunted by a large rabbit doll. The gimmicky 3D aspect is very distracting when you don€™t have the option, as on Netflix, to watch in 3D; scenes of stuff literally floating out the movie screen the characters are watching are rendered inert. Nevertheless there€™s still plenty to enjoy here as it mixes the usual supernatural ghostly horror into an off-the-wall concoction of bewildering visuals and affecting family drama.
