1. Schmidt Nails Captain Dickson's Daughter - 22 Jump Street
But the funniest scene (or rather, scenes) of the year goes to the entire subplot revolving around Captain Dickson's (Ice Cube) daughter in the unexpectedly amazing 22 Jump Street. After Schmidt (Jonah Hill) hooks up with hot student Maya (Amber Stevens) while on assignment, he earns a measure of praise from Dickson, giving him a high-five despite the fact his and Jenko's (Channing Tatum) investigations have so far gone nowhere. Later on, however, Schmidt is meeting Maya's parents when, yup, it's revealed that Captain Dickson is Maya's father, leading to the most hilarious series of scenes in any 2014 film. Dickson is clearly rattled and enraged that Schmidt has been dating his daughter, while Schmidt is evidently terrified at angering someone as scary as his boss. Over lunch, Maya's mother (Queen Latifah) cottons onto the fact that they seem to know each other, as Dickson tries to keep it together but becomes increasingly agitated, asking, "Waiter! What can a black man do to get some water around here?" before he angrily assaults the buffet. And finally, back at the office, Dickson, Schmidt and Jenko have a meeting, with Schmidt strapping himself up in Kevlar out of fear. Jenko detects something isn't right, and after Dickson shows him a picture of his daughter, he (finally, after an egg-timer assisted period of time) figures out what's been going on. Cue Jenko finding it to be the funniest thing he's ever heard, much to the mutual disgust and embarrassment of Dickson and Schmidt. "Schmidt f***ed the Captain's daughter!", he sings, while rubbing in the fact that Dickson unintentionally congratulated Schmidt on nailing his own daughter. Priceless. And finally, as penance, Dickson tasers Schmidt in the nuts, because why not? Which movie scenes from 2014 made you laugh the most? Shout it out in the comments!
