15 Funniest Movie Moments Of 2016
4. The Nice Guys - Ankle Gun
It's a shame that The Nice Guys didn't do better at the box office, because I could watch many more movies following the bumbling adventures of Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) and Holland March (Ryan Gosling). Goslling, in particular, is hilarious in the movie and isn't afraid to look totally foolish.
His funniest moment comes when the two men are held at gun point by an assassin. March suddenly drops to the floor and begins groping at Healy's legs. Both Healy and the assassin look on confused until March explains he's looking for Healy's ankle gun. Only Healy doesn't have an ankle gun and March just dreamt up the whole thing.
What's great about the scene is how well it convinces us that there really is an ankle gun. We come to the realization along with March that gun was a part of the earlier dream sequence. It seemed like such an obvious Chekhov's gun at the time, but knowing how Black likes to subvert cliches, we should have known something was fishy. It's a great, ridiculous moment from one of the year's funniest films.
