8. Peter Jackson
Peter Jackson place on this list is assured almost solely because of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, one of the most notable achievements in the history of filmmaking. Adapting something as long and as dense as J.R.R Tolkien's beloved series into a coherent screenplay would be an impressive accomplishment in itself. Combining that with the astonishing visuals, attention to detail, and overall skill level displayed in Jackson's monumental trilogy resulted in arguably the greatest blockbuster films ever made as well as one of cinema's greatest spectacles. Jackson followed up the Lord of the Rings films with a solid but unspectacular remake of the 1933 classic King Kong. In 2009, he adapted the popular book the Lovely Bones but the resulting film did not go over very well with either critics or moviegoers. Jackson is currently in the process of delivering a prequel trilogy to the Lord of the Rings, based on Tolkien's the Hobbit. While Jackson's filmography outside the Lord of the Rings hasn't been particularly impressive, Jackson's penchant for pushing the limits of cinema and his helming of the greatest film trilogy of all time more than earn him a place on this list.
