One last job and then you're free to go. It's a cliche notion that's been used over and over again. The Rundown is not a ground-breaking original. Think Midnight Run but twice as silly and three times as much as action. What The Rundown does have going for it is Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. This movie shows why he should be our biggest action star. Every action scene is him tossing around normal people like they are rag dolls. The action is also very well choreographed when the Rock has to take on multiple foes. It's almost like watching a superhuman wrestling match where the world slows down to make sure you catch the best parts. Most of Sean William Scott comedic relief falls flat but he isn't annoying in this movie. All of the bad guys in this movie don't even need names, there's the whip gang and everybody else. They're just there for The Rock to throw them around and take apart one by one. Walken is a lot of fun to watch because of the personality he gives to the character and line delivery but he is never really that threatening once you see what Dwayne Johnson can do. The odds make him an underdog but his abilities make him a larger than life unrealistic hero. Watch this movie for the fight scenes and Christopher Walken's portrayal of the villainous Hatcher. He is the real comedic performance of the film. You can fast forward through almost everything else. Best line: "Rage, rage... against the dying of the light... for there shall be no mercy... for any force that stands... blocking this path of his righteousness!
