15 Greatest Fictional Bands Of All Time
2. Hedwig And The Angry Inch (from Hedwig And The Angry Inch)
The titular band in the rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch owes a great debt to David Bowie, whose androgynous personality and experimental records paved the way for the music penned for this Off Broadway musical-turned-movie.
But there are plenty of other, less obvious influences scattered throughout the soundtrack, including other legendary rock n' roll outsiders like Lou Reed, Freddie Mercury, and Kurt Cobain.
An early figurehead for gender neutrality, the character Hedwig Robinson -- who is partially based on author John Cameron Mitchell's own life -- tells beautiful and socially relevant stories with songs like "Origins of Love" and "Wicked Little Town", digging at a sense of wonder buried beneath all the muck and madness created by a frequently hostile and ignorant society.
Best Song: "Midnight Radio"
The most obvious homage to Bowie in the production, "Midnight Radio" is as cinematic and sweeping as anything on The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust.
