5. Baymax - Big Hero 6

Emotionally devastating deaths aren't just limited to live action characters - or even ones with fully formed facial features. Big Hero 6's break-out star Baymax proved that you can become very much attached to a charismatic marshmallow-like blob, and that watching him give up his life to save his "master" is no less easy for him being a robot.

The climax of Big Hero 6 is basically a redo of The Iron Giant - albeit without the additionally devastating public hatred of the robot - as we have to watch not only a hugely charming character die, but also a child's defining relationship be torn to pieces. And this is a kid who has already had to deal with personal tragedy, just for an added gut-punch.

Okay, so it's another case of a sacrifice that doesn't last, as Baymax pretty much just downloads his "soul" into another cassette to be reborn, but his sacrifice scene is staged so well that it's almost impossible not to be pretty devastated by it even now.
