Terminator 2: Judgement Day easily takes the top spot. It's both one of the most accomplished blockbusters ever and one of the best sequels of all time.

Aside from the occasional anticlimax here and there, this sequel doesn't really put a foot wrong and is even better than its excellent predecessor. It's absolutely full of amazing action scenes, great performances, interesting plotting, ground-breaking special effects and, believe it or not, heart.

It actually turns the Terminator, once a villain, into a seriously fleshed-out hero. It is a very different film from the smaller-scale original Terminator, but it still retains all the wondrous science-fiction film-making and memorable characters that made the first movie a classic.

This is a strong contender for the best film in director James Cameron's already impressive filmography and it's also one of the best films ever made in both the action and science-fiction genres. The franchise has never even come close to reaching the heights of Judgement Day ever again, and by the looks of things it probably never will.

Out of all the big R-rated box office smashes out there this is easily the best and it's hard to see anything topping it anytime soon.
