15 Highest-Grossing R-Rated Movies Ranked From Worst To Best
13. The Matrix Reloaded
A much-derided sequel to the beloved original, The Matrix Reloaded is actually OK as sequels go. If it wasn't following up such a popular movie, the backlash would definitely be smaller and while The Matrix Revolutions, the third film, is terrible, this one is perfectly watchable.
If you look at this as a blockbuster, you'll have a great time. The action is completely brilliant (something which many of the film's haters often overlook) and although the freeway chase is the highlight, there's actually lots of good stuff here. The Wachowski siblings directed the hell out of this and this does undeniably make for a great spectacle. The story is also still reasonably interesting and, in general, if you're looking for entertainment this movie will deliver.
Unfortunately, the screenplay is less refined. It has the Zion rave, which is genuinely one of the worst movie scenes ever (it's also juxtaposed with one of cinema's most cringe-worthy and pointless sex scenes), while the much mocked Architect remains a staggeringly pretentious and dumb character. Unfortunately, the action is better than the story by considerable distance.
Still, it's a fun and reasonably engaging blockbuster that isn't too awful as sequels go.
