The strength of a film industry should not be measured in the accolades and praise of the privileged few, but rather in the responses of the insane masses who take to the Internet to pen their furiously unprepared, trigger-finger reactions. If they are impressed, you know for a fact that you've scored a serious hit. That's probably the biggest if you'll ever encounter.
And unfortunately - if hilariously - those voices tend to be the loudest and the most memorable.
Quite frankly, the one star hordes on Amazon are pretty much the hardest people in the history of critical evaluation to get any kind of positive response out of. These are the same people who probably swerve to hit puppies, who ignore "populist" TV shows like Breaking Bad (ignoring all merit because too many people watch it) and who refer to anyone who doesn't sit typing angrily in their basement as a "sheeple".
But thank God for them, because they spawn some gloriously stupid - and sometimes entirely inappropriate - reviews, even in terms of the supposedly greatest films and performances of the year...
