In a fairly surprising move, it was announced in 2016 that The Witch director, Robert Eggers' next project was going to be a remake of F. W. Murnau’s landmark 1922 horror film, Nosferatu.

He told IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit Podcast that it was something he'd wanted to do since childhood and that he was surprised that he wass being allowed to make it as his follow-up to The Witch.

"It feels ugly and blasphemous and egomaniacal and disgusting for a filmmaker in my place to do ‘Nosferatu’ next. I was really planning on waiting a while, but that’s how fate shook out.”

And we should all be thankful for that twist of fate, though it turns out he's making The Lighthouse first. Eggers has already cast his breakout The Witch star Anya Taylor-Joy and she offered the latest update on the project to EW:

“Right now, Robert is making the Lighthouse, which I could not be more proud of and more excited for, and I’m going to go and visit the set. He’s such a brilliant man — other than being a wonderful human being, he’s such a brilliant director. So, hopefully, we will get the chance to make [Nosferatu] together, yeah.”
