15 Horror Movies You Really Shouldn't Watch Alone

3. The Last Broadcast (1998)

Though often lumped in with many of the me-too found footage knock-offs that followed The Blair Witch Project, this $900 micro-budget mockumentary was actually released the year prior, though failed to become the pop-culture phenomenon that Blair Witch did.

While The Last Broadcast is nowhere near as well-crafted as the classic that followed it, it is a pulse-quickeningly effective horror in its own right, convincing as a "real" documentary that examines the mysterious murders of two TV show hosts in New Jersey's eerie Pine Barrens.

The crux of the movie begs whether or not the man arrested for the crime is guilty, or the mythical monster known as the Jersey Devil might actually be responsible. It's a genuinely fascinating mystery that leads to an admittedly outlandish resolution that won't land with all audiences, but the hair-raisingly creepy crime scene photos will burn themselves into your retinas regardless.

You'll sure as hell want to sleep with the lights on after watching this one.
