15 Iconic Final Shots Of Beloved Film Characters

2. Ricky & Louis - Casablanca

There are so many iconic images in Casablanca that it's hard to pick one: the side-on shot of Ricky Blaine (Humprey Bogart) making Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) board the plane for Lisbon ("Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life"), or the gorgeous image of Ilsa's plane flying away while Ricky and Louis look on. But the actual final shot of the movie trumps them both, as Louis and Ricky walk off into the fog, with Ricky delivering the unforgettable line, "Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship." This shot is pure film noir, steeped in mystery and depicting the protagonists walking off into the unknown. It's one of the most memorable and brilliant crane shots in film history, one which by its nature may lack the liveliness of some of the aforementioned images, but it's a perfect choice to close the movie.
