15 Incredible Blockbusters That Ruled The Last 5 Years

4. The Avengers

Avengers Despite being one of the most hyped movies of the last few years, The Avengers managed the rare task of exceeding even the best expectations audiences had for it and it might very well be the most flat out entertaining film since Star Wars. The movies best asset is the writing of Joss Whedon, who gives one-liner after one-liner to the standout cast of superheroes, and delicious monologues to Tom Hiddleston's Loki. The CGI is impressive throughout, coming to an astonishing climax in the final act where the Avengers go toe to toe with an invading alien force in one of the most glorious battle scenes you'll ever see. The Avengers solves one of the main problems that had plagued the Marvel film series so far, which is that none of the characters, with the exception of Tony Stark, are quite interesting enough to headline their own film. With all of them relegated to part of an ensemble cast, they all become supporting characters which seems to work much better for them. With Joss Whedon in near total control of the upcoming sequel, The Avengers might not be the pinnacle of superhero films, but rather the start of an unprecedented movie universe.

I love movies, literature, history, music and the NBA. I love all things nerdy including but not limited to Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Firefly. My artistic idols are Dylan, Dostoevsky, and Malick and my goal in life is to become like Bernard Black from Black Books. When I die, I hope to turn into the space baby from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
