15. How Can Kevin Order A Pizza If The Phone Lines Are Down? - Home Alone
The "Plot Hole": It's mentioned early in the movie that the phone lines are down at the McCallister's home, which means they're unable to call Kevin after realising they've left him behind. How, then, is Kevin able to order a pizza later in the film?
Why It Actually Isn't: This supposed plot hole is brought up a lot, and in a Reddit discussion from a few years ago, one user smartly reasoned, "I always assumed the tree actually severed the main trunk line to the whole town, but local calls within the same exchange still worked."
Apparently having nothing better to do, The Huffington Post then confirmed this with AT&T Vice President-Federal Regulatory Hank Hultquist, who stated, "In 1990, that was absolutely a plausible scenario...When you're trying to call from Paris, now you're relying on a whole series of connections including undersea cables, any one of which could have a problem, which would prevent you from reaching some particular telephone number."
