15 Insufferable Movie Protagonists That Ruined Their Movies

14. Laurie Strode And Dr. Loomis - Halloween II (2009)

In the original films, why was Laurie Strode such an awesome character? Because she was likable and easy to relate to. Thanks to this and Jamie Lee Curtis' grounded yet consistently convincing performance, she's one of the all-time best horror leads. Alas, in Rob Zombie's remakes she was lost in translation and, latterly, so was the formerly awesome character of Dr. Samuel Loomis.

In both films. while Scout Taylor Compton's performance was fine, Laurie just comes across as an A-hole, especially in the second film. She's rude to everyone and lacks the warmth the original version of the character had. At the end of the second film, she is apparently on her way to becoming like Michael; given how unlikable she was this doesn't feel that far-fetched.

As for Loomis, while Malcolm McDowell was excellently cast and he's good in the first film, in Halloween II Zombie did a misguided U-turn with him. He's now a thoroughly detestable man who is selling a book about Michael Myers and exploiting the murders to make money, so he's even worse than Laurie in the sequel.

There are many examples of remakes butchering once good characters; these are two of the worst examples of that.
