15 Massively Underrated Movies From The 2000s

13. Immortals

24immortals blu Immortals is not a great film by any stretch of the imagination, it's silly, contrived, and a bit too serious for its own good but the critical drubbing it received is a bit out of sorts with its overall quality as a film. Immortals only received a 36% on Rotten Tomatoes and it has a 6.0 out of 10 on IMDB despite having several good qualities that make it stand out from other films with similar subject matter. To start with, the film itself looks gorgeous. Director Tarsem Singh brought his trademark visual flair to this film and crafted a brilliantly stylized portrayal of Greek mythology. The acting ranges from acceptable to above average and the fight scenes are very unique and enjoyable to watch. It might be an exercise in style over substance but in this case, with a style like this, it actually works. Again, Immortals is not a great film but its leaps and bounds better then Clash of the Titans and it's at least as good as the much better received 300. It's a case of outsized expectations winning out over the actual product and hopefully, a few years from now people will take it for what it really is, a film simply bursting with style.

I love movies, literature, history, music and the NBA. I love all things nerdy including but not limited to Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Firefly. My artistic idols are Dylan, Dostoevsky, and Malick and my goal in life is to become like Bernard Black from Black Books. When I die, I hope to turn into the space baby from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
