11. The Hangover
The Hangover is one of those R-rated comedies that many might dismiss as a mindless, immature flick that just coasts along on being raunchy and politically incorrect. Such assumptions heavily underestimate the film.
Not only is The Hangover hilarious, but it's also a tightly-written and intelligently-structured comedy-mystery filled with smart twists and turns and well-timed gags. Admittedly, the solution to the mystery is a bit illogical but other than that, this movie's storyline has some serious punch.
Some aspects of The Hangover have obviously not aged well. However, setting those things aside it is by and large a well-written and clever movie. There's a good reason this was nominated for many Best Screenplay awards in 2010, and it even won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy (against an admittedly weak line-up, but still).
If nothing else, one really wishes more of Hollywood's R-rated comedies were up to The Hangover's standard.
