15 Most Anticipated Sci-Fi Movies Coming In 2021
7. Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Despite the fact it wasn't by any means a bad movie, 2016's female-led Ghostbusters didn't exactly resonate with longtime fans of the franchise. Now, another take is in the works, and Jason Reitman's take is set to hit the big screen on June 11th, 2021.
Imagined as a loose sequel to those first two classic instalments, it replaces a female cast with a slightly more youthful one as Phoebe (Mckenna Grace, Captain Marvel) and Trevor (Finn Wolfhard, Stranger Things) come across their grandfather's old Ghostbusters gear and, as the trailer reveals, give it a try (along with ECTO-1).
Those two talented youngsters will be joined by veterans like Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon, so Afterlife is clearly shaping up to be the Ghostbusters III fans have spent decades craving.
How well longtime fans will respond to the fact that the original foursome appear to have been forgotten remains to be seen! Don't be shocked if there are some big cameos, though.
