15 Most Awesome Explosions In Movie History

Not all awesome movie explosions need to be gigantic, ridiculous fireballs, but they can achieve excellence from the fantastic manner in which they're built up and executed regardless.

The climax of Luc Besson's ludicrously entertaining Leon sees the titular hitman protagonist (Jean Reno) gunned down by pill-popping, corrupt DEA agent Stansfield (a never-better Gary Oldman).

However, Leon has a parting gift for Stansfield, handing him a grenade pin before the cop discovers that Leon has rigged himself up to a series of grenades, which incinerate the pair of them a moment later.

It's the actors who really make this one so satisfying, though. Jean Reno's heartfelt delivery of "This is from Matilda" and Oldman's hilarious "S***" when he realises his fate is sealed bolster an already impressive display.
