15 Most Bad-Ass Teams In Movie History
4. The 13 Assassins
Takashi Miike's remake of the 1963 movie of the same name follows a brilliantly simple narrative; the titular band of warriors come together in an effort to stop the threat to peace posed by Lord Naritsugu, and plan an ambush against the villain and his 200 samurai in a small mountain village.
While that sounds like a fairly straightforward plot, things slowly build throughout the movie's running time; we get the classic 'men on a mission' scenes of the main hero assembling his team, and plenty of time is spent getting to know the characters so that the audience actually cares about them by the time the final battle comes around.
And what a final battle it is; the 13 assassins prove themselves as bad-ass as they come as all hell breaks loose around them. Director Miike orchestrates one of the greatest extended set-pieces in recent memory as the heroes fight to the end in a stunning 45 minute battle, utilizing both ingenious booby traps and razor-sharp swords in an attempt to overcome the seemingly insurmountable odds.
